Before delving into the core of this article, permit me to use this medium to wish you Compliments of the Season.
Without doubt, the year 2013 which is nearing its tail-end has thrown up a lot of issues which has and will continue to test the thin fabric that still hold the socio-political entity called Nigeria together. Most importantly, the potent phenomenon known as the All Progressives Congress (APC), the season of open letters,
the troubles of the ruling party PDP, et al, have very important implications on the country. However, the fast approaching year 2014 which represents a century after the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates, a development that constitutes one of the few events that has shaped the nature and character of Nigeria till today, calls for profound vigilance and consciousness on the part of the citizenry. This is particularly because the year 2014 will witness intense politicking as a number of states will be witnessing gubernatorial elections (Ekiti, Edo, e.t.c.), the heat for the 2015 general elections will be on an intense rise, alignment and realignment among the political gladiators, e.t.c.
2014 will be a year to test the resolve of the country. 2014 will be a year to test the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). INEC should not be pardoned if we witness another sham that played out during the Anambra governorship elections. Above all, 2014 will be a year for the citizens of Nigeria to steady or sink the distressed boat called Nigeria. Hence, my sincere advice is for us all to gird our loins for the journey ahead. Let us consign to the trashcans the mentality of ‘politics is a dirty game’. Most especially, the strategic youth population has a greater role in this daunting mission especially the ones who have seen ‘the light’.
With all sense of optimism, I know that ALL WILL BE WELL!!!
I wish you a Blissful New Year in advance… Cheers!!!
