Politician of the Year : Group hails Dogara

Following the decoration of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara as the Politician of the Year by the Leadership Newspaper Group ,a coalition of youth bodies under the aegis of The Ultimate Youth Circuit (TUYC) has hailed the choice of the speaker for the exalted award.

This was disclosed in a statement made available by the coordinator of the group, Mr Opeyemi Ahmed in Abuja on Thursday.

The group affirmed that the award is well deserved due to his political prowess and leadership style in handling the activities of the lower legislative chamber despite his hard fought emergence

" The major indicator for measuring the performance of a legislative assembly is the number of bills being passed at the floor of the house, in the Seventh Assembly, 700 bills were passed in four years while in the Eight Assembly 600bills were passed in a year. Recordedly during this assembly, 130 bills were passed in a day"

" Also the political maturity being displayed by him in presiding the affairs of the house deserves commendation by all lovers of democracy, he has worked in tandem with the Nigeria's Interest rather than the parochial interest of partisan politics in expressing his views as the Speaker"

"It won't augur well as a group if we don't inform Nigerians about the incorruptible stand of the Speaker, during the Sixth Assembly as the Chairman House Committee on customs and excise, he rejected  5million dollars bribe in order to reform the activities of the organization."

The Ultimate Youth Circuit (TUYC) further disclosed that the commendation bestowed on him done for praise singing but to appreciate his effort in building a formidable legislature in tandem with the aspiration of the common man on the street.

Finally, the group eulogized the Leadership Newspaper Group for setting a criteria that meets the unarguable standard of competence, hardworking and team play in arriving at the selection of the people's Speaker.‎
